In the Profile Center at FAU Solar we are striving for a revolution in photoeltaics based on
carbon instead of the customary silicon.
This enables us to produce flexible
colorful or even completely transparent solar cells
in scalable, roll-to-roll printing processes.
Such carbon-based solar cells can be installed on currently unused surfaces such as windows
trains, street signs or even greenhouses and generate energy.
We take a radically new approach to achieve breakthroughs in the area of carbon-based
photovoltaics.
At the heart of our research are unique acceleration platforms which we are currently establishing
in Erland.
In these acceleration platforms high-throughput research will be combined with artificial
intelligence.
To this end we are paving the way towards carbon-based photovoltaic technology that
will take us far beyond past and current scientific boundaries.
After 70 years of development
photovoltaics now supplies one terawatt of electricity worldwide
around 2% of the energy required.
In order to expand this share
a tremendous acceleration in research and innovation is
necessary.
In order to meet the 50 terawatt challenge
FAU Solar plays a key role with a unique consortium
unifying expertise ranging from molecular materials to devices to processes and sustainable
deployment.
