Thank you for being with us.
Okay, so sorry about my absence for last two weeks.
I was being kept busy by a project that I had to finish,
which is done now.
So now starting this week,
all my energy can be put into the lecture now, so yay.
So this week we will do the lecture today,
and then in the exercises we will do a lecture instead,
so that we will get them synchronized back again.
Okay, so today I will walk you through the Intel architecture,
so the development of the Intel architecture.
And their newest chip that's available.
Tomorrow we will do an alternative x86 implementation
done by AMD with their Zen architecture,
and then I will introduce the NVIDIA's GPU architecture.
Okay, so let's start with Intel.
So as we, so it's all messed up on the slides.
Okay, so what we've heard in the past lectures
was Moore's law, right?
And I think I mentioned that Moore was one
of the founding engineers of Intel, right?
And the interesting thing now is that the different
generations of Intel architectures obviously follow
Moore's law very closely, right?
Because why not?
So what you can see is in the past that we have this
TikTok kind of thing, which was introduced by Intel's
marketing where each tick introduced a new micro
architecture, sorry, each talk introduced a new
micro architecture, and each tick then is an optimization
for the specific micro architecture.
So the background here is if you, I'm sorry about the
displacement here, but if you look here, you have
always two pairs for the same manufacturing process.
So it starts with 65 nanometers, and the reason
behind that is that they introduced a new micro
architecture only after they had the tick, right?
So we had the NetBurst architecture manufactured
at 65 nanometers.
After that, we got the next talk with a new core
micro architecture with the same manufacturing process,
right, 65 nanometers again.
So this pattern continues and eventually stopped in
the last eight years.
So the idea behind this is that we introduce a new
micro architecture, right?
Once we are, once Intel was confident enough that
they are able to actually manage the new technology,
the new manufacturing technology, they moved on to
a smaller manufacturing process, but only as an
