How much can we tell about this particle dispersion?
Can we retrieve many parameters of the particles in one single experiment?
Hi there, my name is Paola and I'm aiming to answer this question at Collaborative Research
Center 1411.
We use analytical ultracentrifugation to couple the hydrodynamic and optical features of a
particle system.
In an analytical ultracentrifugation experiment, the particles sediment according to their
size, density and shape.
With our custom-made multi-wavelength detector, we can also record how the system changes
with time and get even more information on the particles we are studying.
After processing the data, we calculate the nanoparticles optical spectra and trace it
back to the system.
So yes, in a single experiment, we can retrieve particle sizes and chemical composition.

This is a collection of the outreach videos created within project Ö of CRC1411-Design of Particulate Products.
In this short video, Paola Cardenas Lopez explains how particles can be analyzed using analytical ultracentrifugation.
