Welcome to our e-tutorial on how to order an item via interlibrary loan.
Items that are not available at a local library can be requested from another library.
To place an interlibrary loan request, use the advanced search by clicking the link Catalog
OPAC Plus on the University Library homepage.
We now have to select a pickup location, for example the main library.
As an example, we will search for Dostoevsky today by Alexander A. Barmak.
You won't get any results in our catalogue, since we do not hold this title, but we can
still find the book in the tab B3CAT Union Catalogue, ILL.
The Union Catalogue lists all holdings of most academic libraries in Bavaria, Berlin
and Brandenburg.
Continue by clicking on the title.
On the tab Get Document and then on the SFX button.
At this point, you may have to change the language to English again on the top right.
Select a pickup location of your choice under Order via local catalogue, VAUDOC or interlibrary
loan.
In case you are not signed into the University Library catalogue yet, you will have to enter
your login details at this stage, your library ID starting with 028 and your password.
Use the request form that pops up automatically to select the collection point you would like
to pick up the item from.
You may also use this form to set the latest date of delivery or personalise your request,
for example by choosing a specific edition.
Do not forget to submit your request.
In case the item of interest is not available in the Union Catalogue, it is still possible
to request material via interlibrary loan.
Let's assume we'd like to order The Human Body by author Michael Schünke.
You won't get any results, neither in the Union Catalogue nor the catalogue of FAU Library.
But you may follow the link Interlibrary Loan Request under Further Help.
Click on Interlibrary Loan, log into your library account and click on Interlibrary
Loan again.
The following pages are unfortunately not available in English.
Select Fernleibe-Stellung Buch.
This will take you to a form where you can fill in all the information you have about
the item.
Processing an interlibrary loan request takes approximately 10 days and is free of charge
within Germany.
We'll contact you via email once the item is ready for pickup.
It is also possible to order an article from a magazine or a chapter from a book.
Please contact our online support team or the information desk if you have any further
questions or concerns.
Thank you.
