Hi everyone, do you believe that you can make a rainbow out of just silver, so a bare metal?
We think so.
And I'm Marcus and I'm working on this question in our collaborative research center.
We optimized a method to continuously synthesize particles with complex geometries.
You can see the transition between the different colors along the reactor and this relates
to the evolution of the shape of the particles.
In fact, each shape of particles is able to produce a different color.
We can use them to make pigments that are better of organic ones.
To be able to stop the synthesis at a certain time gives us the opportunity to watch the
formation mechanism at each step.
Yes, we can build a rainbow just out of bare metal.
If you want to read more about that, just watch our website.

This is a collection of the outreach videos created within project Ö of CRC1411-Design of Particulate Products.
In this short video, Markus Biegel explains how silver nanoparticles can be prepared in complex shapes to tune their optical proprieties.
