Let's go.

Welcome to our next lecture.

Today's topic is analysis of variants and nonparametric analysis.

So let's die for writing.

We'll start with this all called one factor analysis of variants.

Dan briefly discuss other forms of analysis of variants

and then look into nonparametric analysis.

And throughout the lecture, I assume

that you have no training whatsoever,

no statistical training whatsoever.

So I will start with the basics.

OK, one factor analysis of variants.

Let's first talk briefly about the name.

Why is it called one factor?

Maybe you are associating on over already

with comparisons of multiple groups.

Why Dan is it called one factor analysis?

What does this one mean?

So the factor, a factor usually describes one variable

that can have multiple different features.

For example, a factor would be a gender or age group

or maybe treatment group.

And this factor, let's say treatment group,

can have lots of different subclaves,

that is for example treatment with placebo

or treatment with different methods.

And what's an ANOVA that is one factor analysis of variants

that allows us to look at, to analyze data

from multiple groups that all belong

to one factor.

I'm going to talk about what happens

if you have multiple factors there.

So here you have an example, a simple example of an experiment.

In this case, the experiment was asking people to first

read and try to remember words that were depicted

in different form.

For example, as just written words or as pictures,

or in one way or another, they were accompanied

by emotional stimuli.

For example, an emotional stimuli can

be being coupled with pain.

And people that are an electro shock

when they read certain words.

Or it can also be positively coupled,

for example, with pleasant images or pleasant smells.

So there were different groups.

And what we are interested in is are there differences

between the three groups, this example, that we tested.

And one way to do it would be with the t-test that you

learned about a few lectures back.
