Okay, so you can see already the room and everybody assembling again.

Just a 39 second delay.

That's nothing.

That's nothing.

Welcome back.

I hope you had a good break and you probably were very busy in the breakout rooms.

But thank you very much for returning.

We'll make sure it's worth your while because now it's time to meet two PhD students exchanging

their thoughts and ideas.

And I'm sure that's going to be very exciting.

Those two students are Benjamin Lutz.

He's an industrial PhD student in smart manufacturing working at Siemens.

And he's doing his doctorate at the FAPS or FAPS of the FAU.

He's also the spokesman of the Siemens PhD network.

And he'll be joined on stage by Elisabeth Hoppe.

She's a PhD student at the pattern recognition lab of the FAU.

We obviously already met Katharina Breininger from the same lab.

Elisabeth is the new AI newcomer of the year.

And now Elisabeth and Benjamin will be here on stage on those two chairs exchanging their

thoughts and their ideas with you.

Welcome Benjamin.

Welcome Elisabeth.

Hello everybody.

Thank you for the nice introduction.

My name is Elisabeth and I'm a PhD student at the pattern recognition lab in the computer

science department at the FAU in Erlangen.

I studied computer science first in Regensburg and then at the FAU in Erlangen, always with

a strong focus on medical engineering and medical imaging.

And for my master's thesis I joined the pre-development department of Siemens Health in years in order

to develop a new deep learning technique for a recently proposed medical imaging technique.

And this collaboration was a lot of fun and so I decided to continue my PhD with the same

department of Siemens.

So in a collaborative way with the university and with Siemens Health in years.

So and now I'm working at both places, basically at the university and at Siemens.

And I'm looking forward to be here and to report about my experience during this time.

Let me also introduce myself real quick.

Thanks all of us, all of you for joining us today on this PhD talk of us.

My name is Benjamin Lutz.

I'm a PhD student at Siemens and I'm doing my PhD in collaboration with the University

of Erlangen there, especially with the chair of factory automation and production systems.

I've been a student here at FAU for my master's degree and my bachelor's degree in mechanical

engineering and now I transitioned a little bit into the combination of mechanical engineering

and computer science.

I'm also doing research in this machine learning topic, but I'm focusing more on machine tools

where I'm looking at like big machine tools for turning and like milling processes and

trying to see what kind of data I'm getting out of the numerical control to make predictions

on how to have like improved machining, how to improve cutting conditions based on like

the current cutting situation.

So that's what I've been focusing on.

And yeah, it's been a really interesting, interesting time doing this research in the
