Thank you for the introduction
Professor.
So good afternoon, everyone.
My name is Raffaello Terenzi.
And in the following slides I'll present the most relevant work that has been done within
the IPRO project in the context of airship design.
So I was going to start with an introduction
but given the environment I'm going to cut
it a bit short.
I just want to focus your attention on some that are the main advantages
of course
of
LTA platforms when compared with fixed-wing aircraft
helicopters or even satellites.
In particular
what we find is that obviously the advantages in terms of complexity
production
cost and endurance
makes the LTA a very viable solution.
So why do we link it with the electro-aerodynamic propulsion
this rather strange and new research
that has been
let's say
studied for the last 15 years?
Here you can see
for example
a prototype which flown
this is the MIT airplane which
flew in 2018.
And well
starting from the main features
this kind of propulsion system is actually
very sustainable, meaning that there is no emission.
It is quite efficient.
And most importantly
there are two main aspects that characterize this kind of propulsion
system that are the being in a solid state
meaning that there are no moving parts whatsoever.
And also it is very easy to manufacture.
Everybody can do it.
This allows us to say that it is
in fact
a very reliable technology in terms of both
production and employment.
And it actually shares mostly all of the advantages of LTAs
which are complexity
cost and endurance.
This means that there is actually an inherent
let's say
compatibility between LTAs and
