And the last thing we talked about was, what is research-like in AI?, and
I've given you a glimpse of what a particular piece of research I know a lot
about my own research or my group's research because it's always groups that
do these kind of research and I forgot to say that my group is not the only one
that does AI research at the computer science department. Even though the
others may not call it AI. So there's a big group doing muster-erkennung which
is essentially machine learning except that when they started it came from
signal processing. Okay if they had started this year they would surely have
called it AI and they're doing machine learning in a particular area which is
totally fine because you can't do it even machine learning you can't do it
without knowing something about the environment you're in. So they're
actually looking at various types of patterns that they kind of try to
recognize patterns in data, pattern in pictures and all of those kind of things.
So they do a lot of what I would call applied AI. Bjorn Escoffier has a chair
on machine learning. He does all kinds of things, applications in very much
applications in medicine and for that you need sensors and sensors nowadays
work often with machine learning so that's applied AI. Whether you
would call the theoretical computer science chair what they're doing
they're doing logic in various modal logics. That used to be part of AI. It's
debatable what they're doing but that's AI related. I can talk to them and they
understand what I mean and vice versa often vice versa. So there is quite a lot
of AI kind of like a cancer. AI is often like a cancer into into computer science
and so you'll find AI not just in my group so I thought for the sake of
completeness I should tell you. Of course my AI is the most interesting one. Now
naturally right. Not the most applied one though. So if you want to have a job
please feel free to stay clear of my group. Good. So if you have any questions
about that come and see me. We're in the 11th floor and you'll find me.
