Okay, quiz is over.

Okay good.

So I now know the problem with the quiz yesterday.

And since probably some of you don't know the concepts involved yet, I'll talk about them briefly.

The problem was that our production alias server was not, was restarted at some point,

not with the right nice value.

Who knows about nice in Unix?

Ah, good.

You probably know that Unix is a time sharing operating system, like almost all operating systems nowadays.

And when you start a process, you can tell it how nice it should be, namely,

that how much of the time it should actually get.

And so small nice values, meaning the processes are greatly and big nice values.

And I think the values are between minus 15 and plus 15.

So the production server should have been started with nice.

Minus 15, so that it always gets the resources it needs.

And it was actually started with the default of zero, like all the other processes.

And there was a build server running wild in the background.

So now we are again back to production system, nice minus 15, build server nice plus system.

And of course the processes kind of, like daughter processes,

inherit nice values from their parent processes.

That's a very nice thing, but many people, including my ex-Google engineer,

who builds the server and alias frontend, didn't know about it.

And so I thought I'd share that with you.

Right, the quiz seemed to have worked.

It's not surprisingly slightly smaller than last week.

And if we ever forget about nice values again and have to do it on a Thursday,

I could offer, but I didn't have the idea, to have the quiz at nine to make it a little bit easier on your sleep rhythms.

So back to AI 1.

We've started real work with a chapter called General Problem Solving.

And by the way, one of the earliest problem solving AI system was also called General Problem Solving,

because they had the idea that we have an algorithm, one or a class of algorithms,

which we are going to look at, which can solve all the problems we can formulate for a goal-based agent in terms of states.

Remember atomic states?

So states are easy.

They're just objects, numbers, names, whatever.

Add actions.

Actions are things that, we'll see the details of this, basically get you out of one state into another state.

And the things you also need to have, and this is one of my prime examples traveling in Romania,
