The impact of the unemployment research
The impact of the unemployment research
My name is Bernd Fizenberger. I'm a professor at FAU and research director of the Institute for Employment Research.
I'm working on various topics in labor market research including the change in inequality in Germany,
in particular wage inequality, the effects of motherhood on careers of females,
and labor market effects of migration within a country.
Our goal is to do top-level labor market research and then come up with policy conclusions,
advise policy makers based on sound research.
And I love this combination. This is why I studied economics
and I would like to make strong use of all the expertise I've developed and provide sound policy advice.
FAU has a strong focus on labor market research at the Wiesel department
and together with the Institute which I'm heading we are one of the strongest clusters for labor market research in Germany
and also internationally quite visible here. So this is the place to be for a labor economist.
My motivation to get up every day and to do my work is still the same as it was 30 years ago.
I want to get deeper into things, understand, and I'm very much excited when through the lens of statistical methods,
econometric methods, I see something in the data which has not been discovered before.
That's sort of the highlight.
When I have spare time to relax, I go hiking. There is a beautiful landscape around
and I love to sit at dinner and enjoy good food and engage in conversation.
