Ladies and gentlemen, it is my privilege to announce to you our second series in the seminar
in innovative mobility at the FAU, University of Erlangen, the most innovative university
in Germany. With me on the organizational side are as last week, Dr. Alex Kühl and
Nico Wibresch from the Institute for Factory Automation and I am happy and proud to have
with us today in Erlangen the president of the FAU, Professor Achim Horniger.
I am John Magallis and I'm a member of the CXO circle at the University of Erlangen. Our guest
today is special guest Eric Bach. Eric has finished his degree in electrical engineering at the FAU
in 2000 then joined VW and was instrumental in launching some of their iconic cars.
He subsequently joined Tesla as director of engineering and Lucid Motors in 2015
where he quickly rose to become senior vice president of product engineering and chief
engineer in 2021. As you can imagine Eric knows a few things about cars and about all electrical
cars. Eric has also been voted one of the top 50 persons in the automotive industry by MotorTrends
and the Lucid Air has been voted car of the year by MotorTrends and by car.com in 2022.
So we are looking forward to the presentation of Eric. We will record that presentation and
we'll also hold after the presentation a Q&A session. Please use at the bottom the line and
the Q&A field as we move along the presentation to ask your questions. But enough said for now
the floor is open to Eric Bach. Eric welcome to our seminar and thanks a lot for being here.
Yeah thanks John Magallis, thanks for the kind introduction. I actually must say I
studied technical engineering, production engineering back at the TechFac of the FAU
which was a real great pleasure and set me up for life of course at the greatest university in Erlang.
So hi there and good evening everyone. I'm glad you can join my little presentation here.
I'd like to take a moment and introduce Lucid. Next page please.
Lucid's mission is the inspiration of the adoption of sustainable transportation
via creating the most advanced technology use and the most captivating luxury electric vehicles
centered around the human experience. And we see on that page the car. We think we hit the emotional
spot and we'll get to technology shortly. We're a California-based tech company with a headquarter
in Silicon Valley and have been working on this vehicle for quite some time. Next page please.
Before we changed our name to Lucid we started in 2007 under the name Ativa and the first objective
was to build hybrid battery systems. So a deep bench of battery experts plus many many patents
on battery technology, battery management systems, battery electronics. And we started in 2007
battery technology, battery management systems, battery electronics are in our reservoir and we
delivered several hundred of these hybrid battery packs for Asian bus companies. Fast forward to the
next page. In 2016 once we had decided to make fantastic road cars we were awarded a contract to
develop and deliver the batteries for the generation two Formula E race season's electric vehicles.
We as a tiny electric startup in Silicon Valley were selected over many many other
opponents or competitors. We managed to develop a groundbreaking battery system that
now enabled the driver to drive an entire race distance whereas the prior generation
only managed to sustain half a race. Essentially the race teams all our core competitors had to
have two cars for one race. So the race driver drove half the race, went into the box jumped
into the second vehicle and finished the race in the second vehicle because the battery was just
not up to it. We changed that with the second generation Formula E cars. Our batteries showed
issues of electric decay and not the downsides like previously. And I'm proud to
obviously announce that not a single battery had any flaw. We are in the fourth season of the second
generation right now. It's still on the way until later this year. Next page please. Again fast
forward. Our company went public in July of last year. A real big milestone for a small startup
and we're NASDAQ listed and very proud to be the second most valuable EV startup. Next page please.
As Jean-Marc already said we achieved the title of Motor Trend Car of the Year 2022.
We got that award end of 2021 and it was a real milestone for a startup EV company. The first
of their products to get Motor Trend Car of the Year. It's a very prestigious award. I had the
pleasure at Tesla to hold that prestigious award for Model S already but that was Tesla's second
