What a Sunday!

A late Sunday, a Sunday in November,

late in the year of the church,

and a date that is not everyday.

Today, exactly today, 275 years ago,

the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität was founded in this church.

This is of course an occasion that the university's church service cannot pass on.

We have not taken it up.

This day, which will be a symbol of the anniversary,

could have started differently, secular.

Instead, the church service finds the first point on the program.

This is all different than of course,

also that the university's management is celebrating.

We know to appreciate that,

that is extraordinary and we are happy.

It is in this church service,

some things are different than they are used to,

but I hope that I explain it myself,

as they say, and I don't say anything about it,

but I will start again.

Our help is in the name of the Lord,

who is always with us and who is with us.

The Lord is warm and happy, patient and of great good.

We have come together in this historic church

to commemorate the founding of the university 275 years ago.

We think of research and teaching,

of administration and management.

Glorious times are in front of us

and of the dark years.

We think of our learning and teaching,

of experiences and encounters in the university.

Not everything was successful.

Mistakes did not stay.

In God's presence we call,

God be our sinner, have mercy.

The Almighty God is our God,
