Erlangen Nuremberg.

You can already see what a

scientific and artistic force is present here in the region.

And I am also happy, I have been called up, I would like to see the exhibition before,

so that I also know what I am talking about.

And that was a great pleasure for me.

I have also learned that a painting, for example, is hanging in the Pinnakothek, where you have

a template here, so to speak.

I will also look at it personally again when I visit the old Pinnakothek.

And you can already see that for me art has the same value as science and research.

Because, to repeat myself, there is no science or research in Bavaria without art.

At least not in this intensive measure as we do in Bavaria.

Ladies and gentlemen, universities are primarily perceived as cities of education for our

academic youth, that they are also places of education in the comprehensive and holistic

sense and with high public interest we experience today impressive.

The graphic collection of the University of Erlangen Nuremberg counts with its focus

on the medieval world to the most important of its kind worldwide.

It can be called in one way or another with the collections of Paris Louvre, the State

Museum of Berlin and the New York Metropolitan Museum.

In doing so, their treasures are slumbering, partly hidden.

That a first part could now be put in the spotlight of the public, we owe a generous

scholarship from the USA.

The Getty Foundation from Los Angeles has immediately approved the proposal of the art historian

of Erlangen, which in turn speaks for the importance of the collection.

Dr. Hendricks from the Getty Museum in Los Angeles will certainly take further steps

in this regard.

Ladies and gentlemen, art is now being greatly noticed, but the pictures

can only be taken in the truest sense of the word when they are transmitted on the basis

of current research.

Only the publication of the results in catalogs then enables many people to access it.

It is relatively easy for natural sciences to include their collections in the teaching

and make them publicly accessible.

With the often fragile art treasures of a graphic collection, this is difficult for

conservative reasons.

The print in book form is becoming increasingly important as an adequate medium for communication

and distribution.

Ladies and gentlemen, you will be able to convince yourself of this when you draw the catalog

before Dürer in hand and when you also take a look at the exhibition.

The title of the first edition is close, which may be followed by a second or a third,

once under the title drawing or drawings of Dürer, if possible, and then of course drawing

after Dürer.
